The objective of the course is to provide the practical skills and knowledge to undertake the duties of a Ship's Security Officer.

The course is conducted over a three day period of theory and practical training to inform SSOs of both passenger and general cargo vessel of their role and responsibilities under the new legislation. The course will also compromise emergency scenarios with anti-piracy and armed robbery situations.

Course Requirements >
No specific requirements exist for this course. However the candidates wishing to undertake the SSO Training Course will be expected to have knowledge and practical experience of a merchant vessels/ships operational precedures. In addition, the understanding of international martime responsibilities would be beneficial.

For legal accreditations of an Ships Security Officer (SSO) you will require certification in Personal Survival Techniques, Elementry First Aid, Proficiency in Fire Fighting.

Course Content >
Officers learn how to carry out thorough ship security assessments for all types of vessel, draw up ship security plans and deal with the practical elements of day-to-day security. These include contingency plans, checklists, and ship's message formats for all security scenarios. Using formulae developed by British military intelligence agencies, Officers are able to minimise risk quickly and consistently for all stages of their route.

Qualifications >
Students successfully completing the course will receive a certificate of completion. This SSO Course is approved by MCA, Liberia and IOM, and were designed in consultation with IMO to give Officers an in-depth grounding in risk evaluation and management. Highly regarded and recognised internationally, these qualifications offer greatly enhanced employment prospects in the rapidly expanding martime security industry at all levels and in all fields of operation.
